The
West Region, one of Cameroon's ten regions, is characterised not only
by its mountainous terrain of hills, plateaus and plains, but also by
its rich cultural heritage. It is home to a variety of chiefdoms,
museums, festivals and traditional dances. The traditional chiefdoms
are a series of architectural complexes that symbolise power. The
people of the Grassfields are very attached to their traditions. On
this trip we'll discover mythical waterfalls and lakes as well as
golden beaches to make our journey unforgettable.
ITINERARY
Day
1: EUROPE - YAOUNDE
Welcome
at Nsimalen-Yaoundé airport. Cameroon's political capital, commonly
known as the city of seven hills, is a green city with a mild
climate. Transfer to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day
2: YAOUNDE - VILLA BOUTANGA
Early
wake-up call, breakfast. Departure for the western region, visit to
the Batoufam chieftaincy. Lunch at the chieftaincy. Continuation of
the journey, arrival and accommodation at Villa Boutanga in
Bangoulap, 7km from Bangangté. Partial visit to the Jean Félicien
Gacha Foundation. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day
3: BANGOULAP- BAFOUSSAM
Departure
for Bandjoun. Departure for Bandjoun, visit to the Bandjoun
chieftaincy and its museum, one of the most beautiful chieftaincies
in the western region. Visit to the Baham chiefdom and its sacred
place, Fovou. Lunch at the Bandjoun Climate Centre. Continuation and
partial visit to the town of Bafoussam.
Check-in at Zingana Hôtel,
dinner and overnight stay.
Day
4: BAFOUSSAM - FOUMBAN
Breakfast
at the hotel. Drive to Foumban with a diversion to Lake Mbapit on
Mount Mbapit. Continuation, arrival in Foumban, lunch. Visit to the
Bamoun Royal Palace. This was created around 1394 by Nshare Yen, a
Tikar prince from Rifum (Tikar plain, Adamoua region). The kingdom
has seen a succession of 20 kings to date, the current one being
Nforifoum Bombo Njoya Mouhamed Nabil. After visiting the Palace and
its Museum, traditional Bamoun dance performed by the sellers of
cultural objects. Transfer to the Pékassa hotel, check-in, dinner
and overnight stay.
Day
5: FOUMBAN - MELONG
Breakfast
at the hotel. A visit to the craft village is a must, with the
opportunity to buy souvenirs. Departure for Melong via Dschang, with
a diversion to visit the Metché waterfalls. Dschang is a cultural
city of art and history, and the capital of the Menoua department. It
is a real tourist destination, as it is a former colonial city
brimming with many attractions. We will visit only the Dschang
museum. Continuation of the journey, arrival and accommodation at the
Villa Luciole or Klebert, dinner and overnight stay.
Day
6: MELONG - MANENGOUBA MOUNTAINS - MELONG
Early
wake-up call, breakfast. Start of the hike to the Manengouba
Mountains, a 4-hour walk on the way up and a 4-hour walk on the way
back. This is a superbly beautiful site with breathtaking scenery,
the result of volcanoes that lend themselves to walking; at the
summit are two lakes, a male lake and a female lake, with a few stops
at Bororo villages, an ethnic minority in Cameroon. Return to the
Villa, dinner and overnight stay.
Day
7: MELONG - DOUALA
After
breakfast, departure for Douala. Departure for Douala, with a
diversion to visit the magnificent Ekom Falls on the Nkam River at an
altitude of 80 m. They offer a fantastic spectacle, especially in the
rainy season, and were the site of some of the sequences in the 1982
film 'Tarzan of Greystoke'. The journey continues through palm,
banana, Penja pepper and rubber plantations. Lunch en route, arrival
and check-in at the Grand Adamaoua hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day
8: DOUALA - KRIBI
Breakfast.
Departure for Kribi the blonde, seaside town par excellence. Arrival
and check-in at the Ilomba hotel with its feet in the water. Seafood
lunch. Relax on the beach with its fine golden sand. Evening at
leisure.
Dinner and overnight stay.
Day
9: KRIBI
Enjoy
breakfast. Paddle up the Lobé River, opportunity to observe the
Ouistitis along the river, relaxation at Grand Batanga beach. Visit
of the Grand Batanga museum, visit of the Lobe waterfalls which flow
into the ocean, a unique phenomenon in the world. Lunch of fresh
prawns from the Lobé River. Return to the hotel.
Relax on the hotel
beach, dinner and overnight stay.
Day
10: KRIBI - DOUALA
Breakfast
at the hotel. Relaxation at the beach. Visit to the Londji fishing
village and its beaches. Lunch of braised fish and fresh prawns.
Return to Douala. Arrival and dinner in a restaurant. Transfer to the
airport. End of our services.
